The result of the 3D scanning process is a 3D file which can be printed or used as a virtual base for further refinement to be used in modeling, design or as a movie prop.
At Basiliskus 3D Graphic Design Studio we currently use 3 types of scanners:
– The Digic Photoscan, which is a custom built scanning system consisting of 36 cameras and which uses the photogrammetric process for scanning. The cameras are arranged in a circle at variying heights around the scanning area and they all take a snapshot at the same exact moment.
– The Creaform Exascan laser scanner, which produces a highly detailed scan of the desired surface.
– The Artec Eva white light scanner, which scans not just the shape of the surfaces, but their precise color and texture as well, even in the case of complex shapes.
